Machine Overview

American Controls & Automation, Inc. Viper series EDM machine is a complete turn-key package and the complete package is assembled at our West Chicago facility.  Although the machine casting is imported, ACA specs all Ball-screws and slides that are on the machine.  All other aspects of the machine are handled here.  Everything from electronics to software are handled by ACA allowing for us to have complete control over our system.  This also allows for complete flexibility when meeting our customers needs or wishes.  Please see the complete overview of out system below.

Head & Shoulders Style Machine:

Although the Cast Iron is imported, the machines are Mehanite standard certified. Also all of Ball screws and slides are spec'ed by ACA.  All other aspects of the machine such as belts, pulleys, Motors etc. are assembled and wired at ACA's facility.  The head shoulder style machine allows for better control over the cut in a rotated system.  Old C-frame style machines allowed for the tank to move which means the complete tank and all the oil move limiting the speeds at which the machine can control the gap.

Delta tau's PMAC:

Our control utilizes the Delta Tua's PMAC motion controller.  The PMAC PCI family is Delta Tau’s latest version of multi-axis board level machine controllers. Designed to fit in a single PCI slot of a PC as a stand-alone, the PMAC PCI family can control 1- through 32-axis of stepper or servo motors in any combination of axes.  Even thou our base system uses the PMAC PCI version we have the ability to use any of the Delta Tau line of controllers from UMAC to the PC-104 depending on the application.

Gates Belts/Pulleys:

Poly Chain^® is the ultimate in advanced synchronous technology. With increased power capacity and performance it opens up new opportunities in the design of synchronous drives. It can replace existing synchronous drives with a much more compact design and replace roller chain to eliminate virtually all maintenance and costly downtime. Moreover, Poly Chain^® can be used to supplement or replace gearboxes.

Brushless AC Servo Motors:

ACA's standard system comes with the Yaskawa Sigma II line of servo motors which are directly wired into our Flex Pack.

All Sigma II and LEGEND amplifiers have serial encoder feedback with automatic motor recognition, expansion ports for addition of single-axis controls and network interfaces, separate main and control power connections, scalable encoder retransmission, sine-coded PWM output waveforms, full thermal overload protection of the motor, and UL, CE, and TUV certifications. Where required, Yaskawa amplifiers have built-in regenerative and dynamic brake resistors.

With the flexibility of our system American Controls & Automation, Inc. can connect to virtually any other brand of servo motors.  This allows for greater flexibility to the end user who has preferred vendors that they use on all their equipment.  For example if you only use Mitsubishi products on all your equipment, we can adapt our system to use Mitsubishi.

Manual EDM Power Supplies

Power supply giving troubles lately? Having trouble repairing them due to obsoleted parts?

We have from 60 Amps to 300 Amps (Peak) stand alone 'Roll up Enclosure' Manual power supplies. It is designed to replace Elox and Xermac power supplies where you simply roll it up and start with identically matched amphenol connectors.

EDM Flame Responder (EDM Flame Sensor FS-1000)

Detect EDM Flame flare-ups early and Stop the EDM Cycle.

Most EDM fires start during unattended operation and you need to cut the source of fire which is EDM Cutting Cycle. Early Flame detection and use of fire extinguisher is only way to prevent further spread of EDM oil fire.

We offer EDM Flame Sensor FS-1000 sytem that will detect EDM flames and cut EDM cycle.

This sytem could be ordered as an option for new machine or separate  unit for your current existing machine. This easy to install system comes with 2 sensors, base unit, and wired remote control with installation manual.
